Report: Moors 3 Gloucester City 0

In-form Moors smashed home three second half goals to claim a sixth successive National League North victory at the expense of Gloucester City at The Brewery Field on Saturday.

Over 1,400 supporters were there to cheer on Moors as they looked to continue their astonishing run and they got their reward for a battling display with three more crucial points.

Lee’s men have now taken 28 points from the last available 33 to storm up the table and their latest win sets them up nicely for a big home game against Scunthorpe United on Tuesday.

Moors boss Lee was able to name an unchanged starting eleven, with Finley Shrimpton free to play after extending his loan from Scunthorpe while John Lufudu completed a two-match ban.

With high swirling winds beating across the pitch, the game was never likely to be a classic and neither side were able to put together much in the way for flowing football in a scrappy first half.

Danny Wright tested Brad James in the Moors goal with a low drive from the edge of the area, while Shrimpton looked set to score after good work from Rob Ramshaw only for the midfielder to see his low shot blocked.

Moors got their breakthrough early in the second half. Front man Will Harris hadn’t had much change from the two centre-backs before the break, but a wonderful first touch saw him turn into shooting space inside the area before being pulled back. The referee pointed to the spot and Harris duly despatched the penalty to make it 1-0.

Just after the hour the hard-working Harris made way for Glen Taylor, on the bench for a second successive game after returning from knee surgery. And the legendary striker’s first act was to win a free kick on the right which was sent deep into the box for Ben Pollock, whose header back across goal was nodded in from close range by a delighted Taylor.

James had to make a tidy save down to his left to deny Brandon Smalley a goal back after the City midfielder had struck a sweet shot on the half-volley.

However, any hopes the visitors had of a comeback were snuffed out on 88 minutes when a corner was only half-cleared to Isaac Fletcher and his low ball back in fell kindly for fellow substitute Callum Ross who gleefully swept in the third goal.
